Handwoven Afghan Rug Company, Aqcha – Jozjan Province
Aziza Women Weavers is a family-run Afghan carpet company dedicated to preserving the timeless tradition of handwoven rugs. Founded in 2002 by Aziza in a refugee camp, the company began with a vision of resilience and craftsmanship and has since grown into a recognized name in Afghan textile art.
Today, based in Aqcha, the workshop employs around 50 staff and works with more than
5,000 home-based artisans—many of them women—who continue generations of weaving
knowledge from their homes and communities.
Every rug is fully handmade, from spinning and natural dyeing to knotting and finishing. The team uses locally sourced wool and over 100 natural plant-based dyes supplied by Afghan farmers, ensuring both authenticity and sustainability. Thousands of meters of rugs are produced each month, with a strong focus on quality, fair wages, and traditional techniques.

Usman is a skilled woodcarver working in Kabul, part of a generation of artisans dedicated to preserving Afghanistan’s rich woodworking traditions. He and his partners received professional training through Turquoise Mountain, an organization that supports artisans in restoring historic craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
After completing their training, they established their own workshop, continuing the art of hand-carved woodwork with precision and care. Their work reflects traditional Afghan designs while contributing to the revival of historic craftsmanship in local communities.
Today, Usman and his team take great pride in keeping Afghanistan’s woodworking heritage alive through handcrafted pieces made with skill, patience, and respect for tradition.
